Speculation regarding WiLAN's recent patent suit against RIM...interesting...

posted on Feb 14, 12 12:11PM

The following is speculation from Gentani on another board (interesting, and it makes sense given the recent comprehensive " CEO / Management / BOD changes" at RIM,...It was perceived (JMHO) that WiLAN recently (prior to the Florida patent suit filing against RIM ) had an "excellent" relationship with RIM's prior CEO / Management /BOD....................................................................................................

" ..Suing an infringer in EDTX is becoming a long process... their courts are backed-up and good judges like Judge Ward have retired.... expect at least 33 months to get a case wrapped up in EDTX these days..."

"..Now FLORIDA, that's a whole different story! 3 excellent pro-plaintif Judges there working very hard... The word is they are targeting 12 months for a case to finish... but more realistically, I'd say around 20 months.. No wonder WiLAN has picked Florida to go after RIM.... A smart move!..."

"...And just in case you're wondering, why RIM? RIM apparently was ready to sign a new deal with WiLAN but most of the people there dealing with it have disappeared in the recent shuffle... and unfortunately, the new people there are being unreasonably difficult (not to say ....), not leaving much choice for WiLAN but to sue them.... hmmm.... Even better, I'd say, maybe now WiLAN can get a much higher royalty...."
